“FIEC is now on a new path and has the right structure for further strengthening its leading role of strong and reliable representation of all the companies in the construction industry.”

Welcome to the FIEC Annual Report 2020, in which you will find an overview of the many issues on our agenda during the last 12 months, as well as the various initiatives for which FIEC represented European contractors.

All our activities are presented in a timeline.

This Annual Report also represents the end of my mandate as FIEC President.

It has been a challenging period, with a lot of changes:
• In the European institutions, with the elections of a new European Parliament and the appointment of a new European Commission. We took this opportunity to summarise our main priorities in a Manifesto which we shared with the new officials.
We continue to use it on a daily basis to remind our politicians about the central role that our sector plays in achieving the new ambitious goals, such as the ones defined in the EU Green Deal for example.
• FIEC also went through several changes, with the appointment of a new Director General, Domenico Campogrande, and the reorganisation of our team in Brussels.
• Finally, the Coronavirus crisis which has not only changed, but completely disrupted our lives and our economies. Since the very first days FIEC has been monitoring the developments on a daily basis and providing support to our members.
We have also ensured that our messages and requests reach the highest political levels and we are particularly grateful to Commissioner Breton and the Construction Unit in DG GROW for their attention and support.

As I said, it has been a period of challenges, but also a very rewarding experience in terms of objectives achieved as well as of the personal contacts I have had.

I would therefore like to warmly thank:
• all our contacts in the European institutions and federations, in particular our Social Partner EFBWW,
• my colleagues in the Steering Committee,
• the contractors and staff of our Member Federations,
• our FIEC team in Brussels.

FIEC is now on a new path and has the right structure for further strengthening its leading role of strong and reliable representation of all the companies in the construction industry.

I am leaving FIEC in the hands of my designated successor, Thomas Bauer, knowing that with his experience, his competences and his commitment, our members have made the best possible choice.

I wish him success and I hope he enjoys his term of office as much as I did mine.
